Art is, for me, a way of returning to presence.
I create intuitively, allowing colour, texture and gesture to emerge before meaning is fully formed. My work often begins in movement and uncertainty — then slowly finds its own balance.
I am interested in that fragile space between chaos and calm, vulnerability and strength, shadow and light.
Rather than seeking perfection, I look for what feels alive.
Each painting becomes a space in which emotion can exist without needing to be explained — an invitation to pause, feel and reconnect with something within ourselves.
I am Virginie Bergar, a French contemporary artist working between intuitive abstraction and portraiture.
My artistic journey has been shaped by a long search for balance between control and letting go. Over time, painting became a place where I could step away from perfection and reconnect with intuition, emotion and presence.
Meditation, yoga and my practice as a Certified Zentangle Teacher have also deeply influenced the way I create: through observation, repetition, movement and attention to the present moment.
Today, my work explores transformation — and the light that can emerge from what once felt chaotic.
Colour is an emotional language in my work.
Light, contrast, texture and movement allow me to explore what cannot always be expressed through words. I am drawn to imperfections, fragments, transitions and moments of tension — because they often contain unexpected beauty.
My work is guided by intuition rather than by the search for a predetermined image.
I allow the painting to evolve through layers, accidents, erasures and discoveries until a sense of presence emerges.
What matters to me is not simply what the viewer sees, but what the artwork awakens in them.
Artist Statement
My work explores presence, inner transitions and the emotional spaces that emerge between change, vulnerability and transformation.
Working between intuitive abstraction and contemporary portraiture, I use layered colour, texture and light as an emotional language. The painting develops through successive gestures, contrasts, traces and discoveries, allowing the image to evolve rather than follow a predetermined narrative.
I am interested in creating works that do not impose a single interpretation. Instead, each painting offers a space for contemplation — a place where the viewer can pause, respond and bring their own experience to the work.
My intention is not to provide answers, but to create a dialogue that continues beyond the first encounter.
